Kilolo District is one of the five Councils in Iringa Region, established in 2005 by Government Proclamation No. 220 after being divided from Iringa District. Kilolo District has an area of ​​7882 square kilometers. Kilolo District is located between latitudes 70 – 8.30 south of the Equator and longitudes 340 – 370 east of the Greenwich Line. Kilolo District borders Mpwapwa District to the north (Dodoma), Kilosa District to the northeast, Kilombero District (Morogoro) to the east. To the south is Mufindi District and to the west is bordered by Iringa Rural District.
ADMINISTRATION
Administratively, Kilolo District Council has 3 Divisions, 24 Wards, 94 Villages, 484 Subdistricts and one Constituency of MP which is Kilolo Constituency.

Kilolo District Council is made up of 24 elected Councillors, the Honourable Member of Parliament, Kilolo Constituency, Honourable Members of Parliament with 2 special seats and 8 special seats Councillors, 9 Heads of Departments, 9 Heads of Units and the Executive Director who is the Secretary of the Council.

POPULATION
Kilolo District Council has a total population of about 263,559 (based on the 2022 Population and Housing Census). Of these residents, 128,035 are Male and 135,524 are Female. It has a total of 69,597 Households where the average Household size is 3.8.
