DUCE replaced the by then Dar es Salaam Teachers College. Following the shortage of educational professionals which was a result of fruitful implementation of two educational programmes: the Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP) and Secondary Education Development Programme (SEDP). Thus, in 2005 the government on the United Republic of Tanzania took initiative to upgrade the teachers’ college into a constituent college of the renowned University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM).

Duties and Responsibilities

(i) To carry out lectures, conduct tutorials, seminars and practicals for undergraduate programmes;

(ii) To prepare and present case studies;

(iii) To conduct and publish/disseminate research results;

(iv) To participate/contribute in curriculum development;

(v) To recognize students having learning difficulties, intervene and provide assistance and support;

(vi) To guide students in various academic issues;

(vii) To participate in consultancy and community services under supervision; and

(viii) To attend workshops, conferences and symposia.

Qualifications
Holder of Master of Science in Physics or Master of Science in Material Science and Engineering or Master of Science in Computational Physics or Master of Science in Materials Physics and either a Bachelor Degree of Science with Education (Physics) or Bachelor of Science in Physics or Bachelor of Science in Physics and Chemistry or Bachelor of Education in Science (Physics) from a recognized academic institution.

The candidate should possess a GPA of at least 4.0 points at the Master’s Level and a minimum GPA of 3.8 points (out of 5 points) at the Bachelor’s Level; and a minimum of B+ in Physics courses from recognized institutions.

Holder of Master of Science in Computer Science or Master of Science in Information System and either Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Bachelor of Science in Information Systems or Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or Bachelor of Science with Computer Science or Bachelor of Science with Education (Majoring Mathematics and Computer Science or Information Science) from a recognized Academic Institution.

The candidate should poses a minimum GPA of 3.8 points out of 5; and a minimum of B+ in Computer Science subjects. The candidate should possess a GPA of at least 4.0 points in Master’s Degree and a minimum GPA of 3.8 points (out of 5 points) in the Bachelor’s Degree.
