CAMARTEC is a Government Institution under the Ministry of Industry and Trade. It was established by the Parliament Act. No.19 of 1981 and came into operation from April 1982 The Centre is responsible for interpreting Government’s policies of applied research and development in Agricultural Mechanization and Rural Technologies into programs aimed at improving the agricultural production and quality of rural livelihoods.

To become a Center of excellence in agricultural mechanization, rural energy and agricultural processing technologies in the country.

To promote agricultural development and agro-based industrialization through improved agricultural mechanization, agricultural processing technologies and rural energy.
Core Functions
According to Act No. 19 of 1981 which established CAMARTEC, the core functions of CAMARTEC are stated as:
To carry out, and promote the carrying out of applied research designed to facilitate the designing, adaptation and development of machinery and equipment suitable for use in agricultural and rural development;
To develop and manufacture approved prototypes, components and cultural techniques and technologies, and evaluate their suitability for adaptation and alternative use in rural agricultural production;
To adapt foreign designs of agricultural machinery and equipment to suit local conditions of manufacture and maintenance, for use in rural agriculture;
To develop and manufacture approved prototypes, components and spares of agricultural machinery and equipment which are not available in large quantities in the United Republic;
To perform tests on all types of machinery and equipment intended for use in agricultural and rural development in the United Republic, and to publish the results of each such test;
To formulate and conduct short courses designed to provide practical training and further knowledge to village and other artisans in the use and maintenance of agricultural machinery and other appropriate technology machinery and equipment;

Duties and Responsibilities
To prepare industrial research proposals under the supervision of a Senior Research Officer
To participate in data collection for ongoing Industrial research projects;
To collaborate with researchers, engineers, and technicians in doing industrial research and trials
To assist in developing models, drawings, and simulations
To ensure compliance with safety, quality, and industrial research standards
To prepare technical reports, Intellectual Properties, and publications
To keep records of research findings and the database;
To perform any other professional-related duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.
Qualifications
Holder of Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering. Must have scored at least an Upper Second Class or an overall minimum pass of grade B+.
