Songea Municipal Council is one of the eight Councils in Ruvuma Region. Songea Municipality is also the District and Regional headquarters. Other Councils are Songea Rural, Namtumbo, Mbinga and Tunduru.

The four corners of the Municipal boundaries border with Songea Rural District and Madaba Council. It has historically been a location where people of the Ngoni tribe came from South Africa and fought indigenous people particularly Ndendeule tribe and settled in Songea because of the fertile land, favourable climatic conditions and continuously being a productive area.

The Ngoni and other surrounding tribes fought the Germans in resisting foreign rule. There are historical sites and pictures which are associated with the Majimaji war. For example, there is a monument having been left behind depicting the clashes that happened in the Region, such as the first prison (Gereza), police post , the German court (Boma), the place where the Ngoni warriors were hanged (Mashujaa) and the mass-grave of the Ngoni.

Songea Municipality enjoys passable roads, has adequate land, reliable water and electricity supply, airport and communication network. Apart from that, the Municipality has abundant labuor supply, health services, good governance as there is peace and tranquility prevailing which creates a favourable environment for both local and foreign investors. The Director of Songea Municipality invites qualified Tanzanians to apply for three (03) job positions in this Council after obtaining approval from the Office of the President, Public Service Management and Good Governance with the following breakdown:-

1.0 DRIVER CLASS II – POSITION 3

1.1.1 DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

i. Inspecting the vehicle before and after the trip to determine the safety status of the vehicle.

ii. Sending employees to various locations on business trips.

iii. Carrying out minor vehicle repairs.

iv. Collecting and distributing various documents.

v. Filling and maintaining all trip information in the trip log.

vi. Cleaning the vehicle, and

vii. Performing other duties as directed by his/her Supervisor.

1.1.2 QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANTS

To be employed with a Form IV Certificate and a Class E or C Driving License that has been in operation for not less than one (1) year without causing an accident along with training certificates that qualified them to obtain the relevant classes.

Also, they must have attended a basic driving course provided by a VETA college or another college recognized by the Government.

1.1.3 SALARY LEVEL TGS B

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

i. All applicants must be Tanzanian citizens not exceeding 45 years of age,

ii. Applicants must attach a Birth Certificate,

iii. Applicants must attach a detailed CV with Address, Reliable Phone Numbers and the names of reliable referees,

iv. All applicants should upload copies of professional certificates and Form Four and Six certificates for those who have reached that level and certificates of various training courses based on the qualifications of the relevant job on the Ajira Portal,

v. Testimonials “Provision Results”, “Statement of Results” Form Four and Six Results Statements ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE,

vi. Applicants for the Driver Cadre II job with Class E or C Licenses should ATTACH Driver training certificates that qualified them to obtain the relevant grades.

vii. All applicants should upload two recent “Passport Size” photographs on the Ajira Portal page,

viii. Applicants who studied abroad should ensure that their certificates are verified and certified by the relevant authorities namely TCU, NECTA and NACTE,

ix. Applicants who have retired from the Public Service are not allowed to apply unless they have permission from the Principal Secretary,

x. Applicants who are already employed in entry-level positions in the Public Service should not apply and are required to comply with the instructions contained in Circular Ref. No. CAC.45/257/01/D/140 dated 30th November, 2010, xi Submission of false information and qualifications by the parties will be subject to legal action,
