Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) is a tertiary specialised and super specialist hospital in Tanzania organized into nine directorates with bed capacity of 1,500. The Hospital serves between 2,000-3,000 outpatients and 1,000 inpatients per day. The total number of staff is 2,900.

Muhimbili is one of the oldest hospitals in Tanzania whose origin dates back to 1910 – 1920 when it was known as Sewahaji Hospital, since then it has been named Princess Margareth Hospital (1956), Muhimbili Hospital immediately after independence, Muhimbili Medical Centre and finally (1976) Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) was established by MNH Act of the Parliament no. 5 of 2000, which separated the then Muhimbili Medical Centre (MMC) into Muhimbili National Hospital and the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS), now Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). The separation was effected in November 2004. In 2010, the Hospital was gazette as the Super Specialized Hospital.
