Full Funded Scholarship UDSM 2026/2027, The University of Dar es Salaam is the oldest and biggest public university in Tanzania. It is situated on the western side of the city of Dar es Salaam, occupying 1,625 acres on the observation hill, 13 kilometres from the city centre. It was established on 25th October, 1961.

The 2024-2030 UDSM-Sida Marine Sciences Project entitled “Capacity Building in Marine Sciences for Transforming Communities as Blue Economy Beneficiaries (Marine Science for Blue Growth; MSBG)” aims to consolidate postgraduate training and research-based innovation capacity in Tanzania. It is designed to promote the following major thematic areas (i) gender inclusiveness in fisheries and aquaculture for sustainable development, (ii) greening aquaculture via technologies for disease prevention, fish meal replacement and efficient water use, and (iii) sustainable fisheries through remote sensing and smart gears for green capture fisheries. Collaborative problem-based research and research training will involve experts from the University of Dar es Salaam, Stockholm University and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

Postdoc positions and research areas

The project is seeking highly qualified scientists and researchers from the University of Dar es Salaam to pursue a two-year postdoctoral fellowship. This programme focusses on advancing green fisheries and aquaculture trough two primary focus areas: a) Integrating resource economics and gender inclusiveness in fisheries and aquaculture value chains for poverty reduction in Coastal Tanzania and b) Exploring the chemistry of the black soldier fly improves fish nutrition, feed efficiency, and support sustainable rural aquaculture development.

Qualifications and Eligibility

All applicants must possess the following:

Applicants must have a PhD from an institution recognized by the Tanzania Commission for Universities at the time of application.

The applicant must demonstrate extensive and well-established research experience in aquaculture, chemistry, marine resource economics, fisheries or closely related fields.

Willingness to commit full-time effort to his or her postdoc program at the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Dar es Salaam.

Must be a Tanzanian citizen and an academic staff of the University of Dar es Salaam.

Priority will be given to candidates who completed their PhD training under the previous Sida–UDSM project and seek to upscale and consolidate their prior research works.

Letter of commitment from Proposed Mentor:: Applicants must provide a letter from an identified mentor confirming their commitment to offer mentorship throughout the duration of the postdoctoral period. The mentor must be a Professor and a recognized expert in the relevant research area.

Successful postdoctoral fellows will receive the following support:

A monthly stipend for a period of two (2) years
