9 internship posts at Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute October 2026, The Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI) invites applications from qualified and motivated Tanzanian graduates to fill various internship positions for the 2026/2027 financial year.
This internship programme is specifically designed to provide young graduates with practical workplace experience, professional mentorship, and opportunities to enhance their skills and competencies.
1. ICT Technician (2 posts)
1.1 Duties and Responsibilities
To assist in the repair and maintenance of computers and audio-visual equipment;
To assist in ensuring that computers are in good working condition in computer laboratories;
To provide basic ICT assistance and technical support to end users;
To assist students during their practical sessions in the laboratories under supervision;
To carry out specified routine technical tasks as guided by the supervisor;
To perform any other relevant learning duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
1.2 Qualification
Holder of a Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Computer Science from a recognized institution.
2. ICT Officer II – Network (1 post)
2.1 Duties and Responsibilities
a) To design, install and configure LAN and WAN infrastructure;
b) To review LAN and WAN architecture;
c) To test network equipment and devices;
d) To implement network security plans;
e) To perform network troubleshooting;
f) To undertake any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
2.2 Qualification
Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree (NTA Level 8) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
3. Technician II – Electrical (1 post)
3.1 Duties and Responsibilities
a) To carry out specified tasks related to electrical simulators, workshops, and laboratory practicals, students’ projects, research, consultancy, offices, classes and services under close supervision;
b) To assist in the repair and maintenance of electrical simulators, workshops, and laboratory facilities;
c) To assist senior staff in related areas of electrical operations;
d) To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
3.2 Qualification and Experience
Holder of a Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Electrical Engineering, or a Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
4. Technician II – Refrigeration (1 post)
4.1 Duties and Responsibilities
a) To carry out specified tasks related to refrigeration and air-conditioning simulators, workshops, classes, offices, laboratory practicals, students’ projects, research, consultancy, and services under close supervision;
b) To assist in the repair and maintenance of refrigeration and air-conditioning simulators, workshops, and laboratory facilities;
c) To assist senior staff in related areas of refrigeration and air-conditioning operations;
d) To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
4.1 Qualification
Holder of a Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or a Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering, or Diploma in Mechanical / HVAC or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
5. Technician II – Civil (1 post)
5.1 Duties and Responsibilities
i. To carry out specified tasks related to civil engineering/construction workshops or laboratory practicals, students’ projects, research, consultancy, and services under close supervision;
ii. To assist in the repair and maintenance of civil engineering workshops and laboratory facilities;
iii. To assist senior staff in related areas of civil engineering operations;
iv. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
5.2 Qualification
Holder of a Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or a Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
6. Artisan II – Plumbing (1 post)
6.1 Duties and Responsibilities
a) To perform specified plumbing craft jobs under close supervision;
b) To record plumbing repair and maintenance reports;
c) To assist in conducting plumbing repair and maintenance activities;
d) To assist in ensuring the safety and security of plumbing facilities and personnel;
e) To take care of plumbing tools and equipment;
f) To perform any other official duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
6.2 Qualification
Holder of Form IV or Form VI Certificate of Secondary Education, plus a Certificate, Trade Test II, National Vocational Award Level II (NVA II) in Plumbing, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
Artisan II – Carpentry (1 post)
6.2 Duties and Responsibilities
i. To perform specified carpentry craft jobs under close supervision;
ii. To record carpentry repair and maintenance reports;
iii. To assist in conducting carpentry repair and maintenance activities;
iv. To assist in ensuring the safety and security of carpentry facilities and personnel;
v. To take care of carpentry tools and equipment;
vi. To perform any other official duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
6.3 Qualification
Holder of Form IV or Form VI Certificate of Secondary Education, plus a Certificate, Trade Test II, National Vocational Award Level II (NVA II) in Carpentry, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
7. Public Relations Officer II (1 post)
7.1 Duties and Responsibilities
a) To collect and compile news for the Institute’s newsletter;
b) To collect and compile information to assist in the preparation of annual reports, booklets, speeches, prospectuses, etc.;
c) To ensure proper recording and filing of press cuttings for public relations purposes and responses;
d) To assist in facilitating conferences, seminars, ceremonies, and the production of radio and television programmes;
e) To deal with customer inquiries relating to the quality and availability of services;
f) To supervise the production and distribution of calendars, diaries, greeting cards and posters;
g) To report public criticisms and complaints to the immediate supervisor;
h) To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
7.2 Qualification
Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Mass Communication, International Relations, Business Communication, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
General Conditions / Guidelines
(i) Nationality
All applicants must be citizens of the United Republic of Tanzania.
(ii) Age Limit
Applicants must be between 18 and 45 years of age at the time of application.
(iii) Application Completeness
Applicants must attach a signed application letter indicating the internship position applied for, together with their recent passport size photograph and an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV) containing reliable contact details, including postal address, email address, and telephone number(s).
(iv) Academic Documentation
All applicants must attach certified copies of their academic certificates, academic transcripts, Form IV/Form VI certificates, and birth certificate.
(v) Result Slips/Transcripts
Result slips, testimonials, and partial transcripts will NOT be accepted.
(vi) Foreign Certificates
Applicants who studied outside Tanzania must ensure that their certificates are verified and evaluated by the relevant authorities (TCU or NECTA, as applicable).
N.B.: This is an internship placement programme aimed at skills enhancement. Therefore, no permanent employment is guaranteed upon completion of the internship period.
