The is a Public Institution under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The institution was established by Act of Parliament No. 39 of 1963 as the Tanganyika Library Services Board.
In 1975, the Act was amended and a new Act of Parliament No. 6 of 1975 was enacted, changing the name of the institution from the Tanganyika Library Services Board to the Tanzania Library Services Board.
The main objective of the establishment of the TLSB was to provide opportunities for all citizens, without any discrimination, to use Public Libraries to obtain education, knowledge and various information that will help them in getting rid of poverty and ignorance and also to find entertainment and maintain culture.

1: LIBRARIAN II: Number of Posts: 13
Duties and Responsibilities
To assist in Cataloguing and classifying books;
To assist users in literature searching and reference services;
To assist the process of Book selection and ordering;
To compile library statistics and reports; and
To shelve, file and issue books;
To prepare report regarding cataloguing and classification of books;
To perform any other assigned duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications
Holder of Bachelor Degree in Librarianship and Information Sciences or equivalent qualifications from recognized Higher Learning Institutions.
2: LIBRARY ASSISTANT II: Number of Posts: 7
Duties and Responsibilities
To display new books and other reading materials;
To shelve file and issue books;
To register readers;
To upkeep backsets of newspapers and journals;
To repair library publications;
To assist library users in locating reading materials and retrieving information;
To prepare cuttings from newspapers of relevance to the Board;
To handle simple enquiries from readers; and
To undertake bibliographical searching.
Qualifications
Holder of Certificate (NTA-Level 5) in Library Services from recognized Institutions.
3: TUTOR II – RECORDS AND ARCHIVES MANAGEMENT: Number of Posts: 1
Duties and Responsibilities
To deliver lectures, tutorials, and hands-on sessions on Records and Archives management topics,
To prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, and assignments aligned with the curriculum.
To Design and administer tests, quizzes, assignments, and projects to evaluate student learning.
To Grade and provide constructive feedback to help students improve their understanding and skills.
To Offer academic support, mentoring, and career guidance to students.
To conduct research to stay updated on emerging trends in Records and Archives Management systems and integrate them into the curriculum.
To Develop and update course content to reflect industry advancements and academic standards.
To Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum reviews, and other administrative duties.
To Support accreditation, quality assurance, and compliance with institutional policies.
To manage resources, such as Registry or simulation environments, to enhance practical learning experiences.
To perform any other assigned duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications
Holder of Bachelor Degree in Records Management and Archives Administration or equivalent qualification with a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 5.0 or equivalent qualification in the relevant field from an accredited higher learning institution.
4: TUTOR II (LIBRARY AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT): Number of Posts: 1
Duties and Responsibilities
To assist in design course programs within one’s competence and present them to the school governing council for approval;
To assist in scanning the content and references of each course that one teaches;
To assist reviewing periodically lecture/Instruction notes and other illustration materials;
To provide tutorials/seminars so a means of filling in information gaps arising from lecturing;
To avail times for consultation and provide appropriate guidance to all students requiring individualized assistance;
To give assignments to students and ensure prompt marking and feedback for each assignment;
To set examination;
To write technical papers for presentation in various scholarly for a student’s seminar both locally and abroad;
To write and publish teaching manuals, teaching notes and books within one’s area of specialization; and
To perform any other assigned duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications
Holder of Bachelor Degree in Library and Information Science, Library and Information Management, Library and Information Studies with a minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 5.0 or equivalent qualification from an accredited higher learning institution
