1500 Volunteer Teaching Opportunities in Secondary Schools 2026

The responsibilities of OR-RALG are implemented at the Headquarters, Regions and Local Government Authorities levels. In accordance with the Presidential Instrument on the Division of Responsibilities issued by the President in April 2016, the responsibilities of OR-RALG include:-

i) Coordinating the implementation of the Urban and Rural Development and Devolution Policy (D by D);

ii) Coordinating urban services such as transportation, water and sanitation;

iii) Managing the Teachers Service Commission;

iv) Coordinating and Managing Regional Administrations to enable Councils to carry out their responsibilities;

v) Coordinating the Management and Operation of Primary and Secondary Schools in the country through Local Government Authorities (LGAs);

vi) Building the capacity of OR-RALG staff to effectively carry out their responsibilities; and

vii) Managing the performance of Organizations, Institutions, Programs and projects under OR-RALG

The Office of the Prime Minister – Regional Administration and Local Government (OMR-RALG) through the Global Partnership for Education Teacher Support Programme (GPE – TSP) Project is implementing various interventions including coordinating the engagement of volunteer teachers.

Through this project, OWMO – RALGM is advertising volunteer positions for 1,500 teachers in Secondary Schools under Local Government Authorities with the greatest need based on the Secondary Teacher Allocation Protocol (S – TAP).

Therefore, OWMO – RALGM through the GPE – TSP project invites qualified Tanzanians to submit applications for one thousand five hundred (1,500) Volunteer Teaching positions as outlined in this advertisement. These positions are targeted at teachers of Science and Technology (STEM), Vocational Subjects and Business Studies.
The general duties of the volunteer teacher, qualifications of applicants and the number of positions are outlined below:-

1.0. General Duties of the Volunteer Teacher

i. Preparing the job description, lesson plans, lesson notes and Work Plan of other assigned responsibilities;

ii. Developing and teaching and learning tools;

iii. Teaching, conducting Assessment and maintaining records of Student Development; iv. Supervising and monitoring student attendance in School and Classroom;

v. Supervising the mental, physical, and spiritual development of students and providing counseling and guidance;

vi. Providing professional advice and expertise on educational development;

vii. Managing and maintaining School equipment and assets;

viii. Performing other tasks assigned by the Principal according to the responsibilities of the School

1.1 Qualifications for a Volunteer Physics Teacher – Position 504

i. Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Education with a major in Physics from a recognized Institution of Higher Education; or

ii. Non-Teacher/Education Degree with a major in Physics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from a recognized Institution of Higher Education Higher Education Institutions recognized by the Government; or

iii. Diploma in Teaching with Physics as a Teaching Subject from a Government-recognized College of Education.

1.2 Qualifications for a Volunteer Teacher of Chemistry – Position 246

i. Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Education with Chemistry as a Teaching Subject from a Government-recognized College of Education; or

ii. Non-Teacher/Education Degree with Chemistry as a Teaching Subject and Postgraduate Diploma in Education from a Government-recognized College of Education; or

iii. Diploma in Teaching with Chemistry as a Teaching Subject from a Government-recognized College of Education.

1.3 Qualifications for a Volunteer Teacher of Biology – Position 332

i. Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Education Bachelor of Education with a teaching subject in Biology from a Government-recognized Institution of Higher Education; or ii. Non-Teacher/Education Degree with a teaching subject in Biology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from a Government-recognized Institution of Higher Education; or

iii. Diploma in Teaching with a teaching subject in Biology from a Government-recognized Institution of Higher Education.

1.4 Qualifications for a Volunteer Teacher of Mathematics – Position 418

i. Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Education with a teaching subject in Mathematics from a Government-recognized Institution of Higher Education; or

ii. Non-Teacher/Education Degree with a teaching subject in Mathematics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from a Government-recognized Institution of Higher Education recognized by the Government; or

iii. Diploma in Teaching with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Teachers College.

1.5 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR JOB APPLICANTS

(i) Must be a Tanzanian citizen with a National Identification Number (NIDA) and not exceeding 43 years of age;

(ii) Must attach a copy of Birth Certificate, Education and Vocational Certificates;

(iii) Must be willing to work in Secondary Schools with a high demand for teachers;

(iv) Must not be an Employee of the Government or any other Institution;

(v) ​​Must not have been dismissed or retired from the Public Service for service misconduct;

(vi) Applicants must attach all the documents required in the system; and

(vi) Applicants must attach all the required documents in the system; and

(vii) All applicants who studied Secondary Education abroad are required to obtain an Equivalent Number starting with the letters EQ… from the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA).
