National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), as a Government Executive Agency, was established in 26th March, 1999 under the Executive Agencies Act No. 30,1997. Previously, it was Central Bureau of Statistics established through Statistics Ordinance Cap. 443 of 1961 repealing the Statistics Ordinance of 1949- Chapter 443 which was governing statistics operations in the then British colonial territories of East Africa namely Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

As an executive agency, NBS functioned under the authority of the Statistics Act No. 1 of 2002. This transformation aimed at enhancing effectiveness and efficiency in the overall process of statistical production and coordination of National Statistical System (NSS) in the country.

NBS became an autonomous public office under Ministry of Finance through the Statistics Act No. 9 of 2015 (R.E. 2019) and has the mandate to collect, produce and disseminate official statistics and coordinate the National Statistical System (NSS).

To become a one-stop centre for official statistics in Tanzania.

MISSION

To produce quality official statistics and services that meet needs of national and international stakeholders for evidence based planning and decision making.

1: ICT OFFICER II (PROGRAMMER): Number of Posts: 1

Duties and Responsibilities

To design computer systems charts and providing the necessary systems documentation;

To assist users in systems analysis and design;

To execute and document test plans according to quality management standards and methods;

To prepare systems flow charts of information movements;

To undertake low level routine maintenance of ICT equipment;

To ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and NBS business process; and

To perform any other duties related to his/her work as assigned by his/her supervisor.

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma in one of the following fields: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Software Development, Information System, System Administration, Telecommunication, from recognized Institution.

2: STATISTICIAN II: Number of Posts: 20

Duties and Responsibilities

To collect official statistical data;

To design survey instruments and quality control measures;

To prepare and compile periodic official statistical reports;

To disseminate official statistical products according to plans;

To prepare periodic performance reports; and

To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Holder of a Bachelor Degree in one of the following fields: Official Statistics, Statistics, Data Science, or equivalent qualifications from recognized Institutions.

3: ICT OFFICER II (PROGRAMMER): Number of Posts: 2

Duties and Responsibilities
