31 Vacancies at Zanzibar Bureau of Standards (ZBS) April 2026, The Zanzibar Bureau of Standards (ZBS) was established in accordance with the Zanzibar Standards Act No. 1 of 2011.
The main objective of establishing the Zanzibar Standards Institute is to ensure that Zanzibar develops standards for goods and services and to manage the quality of those goods and services. Standards and quality products aim to protect the health and safety of consumers as well as to grow the economy of Zanzibar and to preserve the country’s environment.
The Zanzibar Standards Institute (ZBS) invites applications to fill new positions in various cadres from suitably qualified applicants in its Office in Unguja for the financial year 2025/2026; the total number of positions is 31.
The positions themselves are as follows:-
1. FOOD QUALITY CONTROL AND INSPECTION OFFICER (FOOD) – GRADE II (ZPSI06) Position 01
Qualifications for the applicant:
i. Must be a Zanzibari not exceeding forty-five (45) years of age.
ii. Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Environmental Science, Biology, Agriculture General, Biotechnology, Soil Science or related fields from a recognized university by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
iii. Must be computer literate.
iv. Work experience is an additional qualification.
Duties
i. Conduct inspections and take samples of food products for laboratory testing.
ii. Collect information to be used in the preparation of an inspection plan in accordance with the
inspection system and regulations.
iii. Take samples of food products of the Client who was allowed to use the quality mark and quality certificate for inspection.
iv. Collect batch samples at the points of import of products.
v. Participate in inspections to ensure the quality of certified products is sustainable.
vi. Maintain records of food product inspections.
vii. Maintain the safety of equipment used during sampling.
viii. Collect information to be used in the preparation of quarterly, half-yearly and annual implementation reports and submit them to the relevant authorities.
ix. Perform other duties consistent with his/her responsibilities as assigned by his/her Head.
2. FOOD INSPECTION AND QUALITY CONTROL OFFICER – GRADE III (ZPSG-08) Position 02
Qualifications for the applicant:
i. Must be a Zanzibari citizen not exceeding forty-five (45) years of age.
ii. Must possess an Ordinary Diploma in Food Science, Environmental Science, Biology, Agriculture General or equivalent from a recognized university by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
iii. Must be computer literate.
iv. Work experience is an additional qualification.
Duties
i. Participate in and conduct inspections of food products to ensure that they meet standards.
ii. Take and submit samples of food products for laboratory testing.
iii. Assist in maintaining records of food product inspections.
iv. Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of a quality system.
v. Assist in taking corrective action and maintaining the quality system.
vi. Ensure the safety of equipment used during sampling.
vii. Participate in preparing quarterly, half-yearly and annual implementation reports.
viii. To perform other duties consistent with his/her duties as may be assigned by his/her Head.
3. INSPECTION AND QUALITY CONTROL OFFICER CIVIL ENGINEERING – GRADE II (ZPSI-06) Position 02
Qualifications of the applicant:
i. Must be a Zanzibari not exceeding forty-five (45) years of age.
ii. Must possess a First Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil and Transport Engineering, Soil Science or equivalent from a recognized university by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
iii. Must be computer literate.
iv. Work experience is an additional qualification.
Duties
i. To inspect and take samples of civil engineering products for laboratory testing.
ii. Collect information to be used in the preparation of an audit plan in accordance with the audit system and principles.
iii. Take samples of construction engineering products of the Client who was allowed to use the quality mark and quality certificate for inspection.
iv. Collect samples of labels (batch) at the points of import of products.
v. Participate in inspections to ensure the quality of certified products is sustainable.
vi. Keep records of inspections of construction engineering products.
vii. Maintain the safety of equipment used during sampling.
viii. Collect information to be used in the preparation of quarterly, half-yearly and annual implementation reports and submit them to the relevant authorities.
ix. Perform other tasks consistent with his/her duties as assigned by his/her Head.
4. INSPECTION AND QUALITY CONTROL OFFICER ASSISTANT ENGINEERING (CIVIL) –
GRADE III (ZPSG-08) Position 02
Qualifications of the applicant:
i. Must be a Zanzibari not exceeding forty-five years of age ( 45).
ii. Hold an Ordinary Diploma in the field of Civil Engineering, Civil and Transport Engineering or equivalent fields from a college recognized by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
iii. Have computer skills.
iv. Work experience is an additional qualification.
Duties
i. Participate in and conduct inspections of construction engineering products to ensure that they have met standards.
ii. Take and submit samples of construction engineering products for laboratory examination.
iii. Assist in maintaining records of inspections of construction engineering products.
iv. Participate in the preparation, implementation and development of the quality system.
v. Assist in taking steps to correct and protect the quality system.
vi. Ensure the safety of equipment used during sampling.
vii. Participate in preparing quarterly, half-yearly and annual implementation reports.
viii. To perform other duties consistent with his/her duties as may be assigned by his/her Head.
5. TEXTILE AND LEATHER QUALITY CONTROL AND INSPECTION OFFICER – GRADE II (ZPSI-06) Position 02
Qualifications for the applicant:
i. Must be a Zanzibari not exceeding forty-five (45) years of age.
ii. Must possess a First Degree in Textile Engineering, Leather Technology, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Processing, Chemical Industry, Chemical Science, Textile Design or equivalent from a recognized university by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
iii. Must be computer literate.
iv. Work experience is an additional qualification.
Duties
i. Conducting inspections and taking samples of textile and leather products for laboratory testing.
ii. Collecting information to be used in the preparation of an inspection plan in accordance with the inspection system and regulations.

ii. Must possess an Ordinary Diploma in the field of Fashion and Textile Technology, Leather Products, Leather Processing or equivalent fields from a college recognized by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
iii. Must be computer literate.
iv. Work experience is an additional qualification.
Duties
i. Participate in and conduct inspections of textile and leather products to ensure that they meet standards.
ii. Take and submit samples of textile and leather products for laboratory examination.
iii. Assist in maintaining records of textile and leather product inspections.
iv. Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of the quality system.
v. Assist in taking corrective action and maintaining the quality system.
vi. Ensure the safety of equipment used during sampling.
vii. Participate in preparing quarterly, half-yearly and annual implementation reports.

7. ELECTRICAL ASSISTANT INSPECTION AND QUALITY CONTROL OFFICER – GRADE III (ZPSG-08) Position 02
Qualifications for the applicant:
i. Must be a Zanzibari citizen not exceeding forty-five (45) years of age.
ii. Must possess an Ordinary Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Electronics, Automation Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
iii. Must be computer literate.
iv. Work experience is an additional qualification.
Responsibilities
i. Participate in and conduct inspections of electrical products to ensure that they meet standards.
ii. Take and submit samples of electrical products for laboratory testing.
iii. Assist in maintaining records of electrical product inspections.
iv. Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of a quality system.
v.Assist in taking steps to improve and protect the quality system.
vi. Ensure the safety of the equipment used during sampling.
vii. Participate in preparing quarterly, half-yearly and annual implementation reports.
viii. Perform other duties consistent with his/her responsibilities as assigned by his/her Head.
