Teacher Training Programmes 2026/2027

Teacher Training Programmes 2026/2027, The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) has officially announced applications for Diploma Teacher Training Programmes for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The programmes are designed to strengthen the teaching workforce in Tanzania by preparing qualified teachers for Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and Special Needs Education.

Training will be offered in both government and private teachers’ colleges across the country. Eligible applicants are invited to apply for admission based on the qualifications outlined by the ministry.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY INTO TEACHING TRAINING

a) The qualifications for entry into the Diploma in Teaching in Primary and Primary Education (02 Years) are:

(i) Form Six graduates with Grade I-III pass at the level of two (02) “Principal Passes”; and

(ii) Teachers who have completed Teacher Training at the Diploma (Certificate) Level in Teaching in Primary or Primary Education.

In addition, the selected candidates for the training will be placed in streams according to their performance
in the National Teaching Examination at the Diploma in Teaching Education level.

b) Qualifications for admission to the Special Diploma in Teaching in Primary Education (03 Years) are Form Four graduates with Grade I-III grades at a grade of “C” or above in three subjects, two of which are:

Basic Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Information and Computer Studies or Computer Science. c) Qualifications for admission to the Diploma in Teaching in Primary and Primary Education via Distance Learning (Three (03) to Four (04) Years) are teachers who have completed a Diploma in Teaching in Primary or Primary Education.

Teachers’ Colleges intending to conduct distance learning courses must comply with the provisions of the Guidelines for the Provision of Diploma in Teaching in Primary and Primary Education via Distance Learning (Feb.2026) issued by the Commissioner for Education.

Available Teacher Training Programmes

The Ministry is offering the following diploma programmes:

1. Diploma in Early Childhood and Primary Education (2 Years)

This programme is intended for:

  • Form Six graduates with Division I–III and at least two Principal Passes.
  • Teachers who have completed a Certificate in Early Childhood or Primary Teacher Education.

Successful applicants with teaching certificates will be assigned to appropriate study streams based on their performance in the National Teacher Education Examination.

2. Special Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (3 Years)

Applicants must be Form Four graduates with Division I–III and have obtained grade C or above in at least three subjects. Two of the subjects must be among the following:

  • Basic Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Information and Computer Studies
  • Computer Science

The programme aims to increase the number of qualified primary school teachers specializing in science and mathematics subjects.

3. Diploma in Early Childhood and Primary Education through Distance Learning (3–4 Years)

This programme is specifically designed for teachers who have already completed a Certificate in Early Childhood or Primary Teacher Education and wish to upgrade their qualifications while continuing to work.

PROCEDURE FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS AND RECEIVING RESPONSES

The procedure for submitting applications and receiving responses for applicants for the Diploma in Teaching in Primary and Primary Education and the Special Diploma in Primary Education
shall be as follows:

(i) Form Four, Form Six graduates and teachers who have completed the Diploma in Teaching in Primary and Primary Education, with the qualifications specified in this advertisement are allowed to apply;

(ii) Applicants for Teacher Training in Government Teachers Colleges are required to register and submit applications electronically through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s admission system (https://tcm.moe.go.tz/);

(iii) Applicants for Teacher Training for the Diploma in Teaching in Primary and Primary Education (2 Years) shall choose three (03) courses starting with the one they prefer;

(iv) Applicants for the Special Diploma in Teaching in Primary Education (03 Years) will select three (03) specializations starting with the one they prefer;

(v) ​​Responses to those selected to join Teacher Training in Government Teachers’ Colleges will be provided on the system through the “Account” used by the applicant to apply for Teacher Training (starting from 15/07/2026) and at the selected Teachers’ Colleges;

(vi) Applicants for Teacher Training in Non-Government Teachers’ Colleges will submit their applications to the relevant colleges. In addition, responses to those selected to join the Training will be provided by the selected Teachers’ Colleges; and

(vii) Application forms for joining Teacher Training will be provided through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology website (www.moe.go.tz) and the College that the applicant will be assigned to using his/her address. All applicants are advised to provide their full address, email address and contact telephone number.

(viii) The deadline for submitting applications is 10/07/2026.
