Full Job Description

Thoroughly familiarize yourself with comparative (own and competitor) readership, circulation, advertising rates, and costs across all platforms, including Print, Digital, Events, and Electronic Media (e.g., E-paper).

Identify potential advertising clients, study their business models and customer base, and effectively communicate the value and benefits of advertising through Mwananchi Communications Ltd platforms, including Newspapers, Websites, Social Media, and Events.

Execute sales by obtaining clear client requirements, including advertisement size, placement dates, and pricing. Ensure all orders are confirmed through a signed authorization from the client representative.

Assist clients in developing advertising copy and coordinate with the Graphic Design team to ensure high-quality artwork and effective presentation.

Book client advertisements into the system, ensuring all required documentation is attached, including:

Signed order forms

Artwork

Client approvals

Obtain all necessary internal approvals to support advert bookings and ensure smooth processing and timely publication.

Prepare and submit daily call plans (itineraries) and sales activity reports through email or physical meetings.

Review sales plans and reports with the Classified Business Manager and escalate any challenges for timely resolution and support.

Follow up on payment collection for all completed sales and ensure clients settle outstanding invoices in accordance with company credit terms.

Share weekly collection reports detailing:

Amounts collected per client

Outstanding balances

Confirm collection status with the line manager or finance liaison.

Maintain accurate records of:

Client interactions

Sales pipeline status

Payment follow-ups

Ensure transparency and accountability in all sales and client-related transactions.

Promotes and coordinates the sale and distribution of newspapers in areas served by franchised wholesale distributors.

Surveys urban and suburban areas to determine newspaper sales potential using statistical tables.

Recommends new outlets and locations for:

Newsstands

Street sale racks

Schedules delivery and distribution of newspapers and regulates order sizes to maintain maximum sales with minimum return levels.

Opens new sales channels to improve copy sales supported by sales initiatives as push factors.

Evaluates distributor and vendor sales performance daily and assists them through:

Sales promotion programs

Training programs

Inspects routes to ensure prompt and regular delivery of newspapers to:

Distributors

Vendors

Homes

Offices

Distributes and explains circulation instructions and changes to distributors and vendors.

Investigates and resolves distributor and vendor complaints.

Investigates delinquent accounts and makes collections.

Ensures the visibility of MCL brands in respective markets.

Instructs vendors, drivers, and distributors on sales techniques to improve sales.

Lays out home and office delivery routes and organizes carrier crews.
