In 1997 it began offering University Certificate, Diploma, and Degree programmes. It operated as University College for eighteen years and was distinguished as being the first private university in Tanzania.

Job Opportunity-DIRECTOR OF ICT SERVICES
1. JOB DESCRIPTION
The Director of ICT Services shall:
i. Be responsible to the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Planning, Administration and Finance;
ii. Be in charge of the ICT Directorate;
iii. Make proposals for the strategic direction on information technology and provide mechanisms for its implementation;
iv. Oversee security of systems, networks, and enterprise information;
v. Ensure adherence to established ICT standards;
vi. Analyse ICT infrastructure and systems performance to assess operating costs, productivity levels, upgrade requirements, and other metrics and needs;
vii. Recommend and supervise hardware/software specifications for ICT equipment;
viii. Facilitate ICT security audits or investigations;
ix. Prepare and submit ICT status reports;
x. Provide user support, including staff training, access and security of the system;
xi. Develop and maintain relationships with external ICT vendors and service providers;
xii. Keep updated with emerging ICT trends;
xiii. Perform any other duties assigned by superiors.
2. PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The successful candidate will be assessed based on the following:
i. Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and large groups of technical and professional staff;
ii. Ability to manage ICT projects;
iii. Ability to think creatively and to implement leading-edge technology solutions;
iv. Ability to promote teamwork and to manage conflict;

3. ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Information Technology (IT) or a related discipline from a recognised institution.
Candidates holding academic qualifications awarded by foreign institutions must attach TCU letters of verification for the respective qualifications.
4. WORK EXPERIENCE
At least six (6) years of relevant work experience.
