Call for Work at Moshi Municipal Council 2026, Moshi Municipal Council is one of the seven councils in the Kilimanjaro Region. The town of Moshi was established in 1892 and relocated to its current site from Kolila, Old Moshi (Moshi Rural District), in 1911. It was granted the status of a minor town in 1926 and a full town in 1956. It attained municipal status in 1988.
1.1 Municipal Boundaries and Area:
Moshi Municipality is surrounded by Moshi Rural District to the south, east, and north, and borders Hai District to the west. The town covers an area of 58 square kilometers and is situated at an elevation ranging from 700 meters above sea level in the south to 950 meters in the north. There is a population density of approximately 3,165 residents per square kilometer.
1.2 Administration:
Moshi Municipality is divided into 2 divisions, 21 wards, and 60 streets, and comprises a single electoral constituency. The municipality has a total of 29 councilors: 21 elected councilors, 7 holding special seats, and one elected Member of Parliament. 1.3 Population:
Moshi Municipality has grown from a small town with a population of 8,048 in 1948 to 184,292—according to the 2012 Population and Housing Census—comprising 95,118 women and 89,174 men.
Unlike other towns in the country, accurate population estimates should account for the more than 76,000 people who spend their days in the town for business activities and utilize municipal resources but reside in the adjacent areas of Moshi Rural and Hai districts. These individuals are not factored into budget allocations—particularly under the LGCDG system and other programs that provide grants based on population size.
