8 New Vacancies at University of Dodoma (UDOM) May 2026, The University of Dodoma (UDOM), in partnership with the Liverpool School of Tropical
Medicine (LSTM) and the Ministry of Health of Tanzania, is implementing the “Al-Facilitated
Ultrasound Feasibility and Assessment of Resources and Integration (SAFARI) Project”.
In connection with this project, UDOM invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for
the position of Research Assistant (RA).
RAs will be central to project delivery, leading field data collection, embedding study procedures within routine facility workflows, and ensuring timely coordination and reporting between facility teams and the central project management unit.
Position Title: Research Assistant (RA) – SAFARI Project
Number of Posts: 8 posts (one per council across Dodoma Region).
WORKING SITE
One Research Assistant will be based in each of the following eight (8) councils in Dodoma
Region:
1. Dodoma City Council
2. Bahi District
3. Chamwino District
4. Chemba District
5. Kondoa District
6. Kondoa Town Council
7. Kongwa District
8. Mpwapwa District
Applicants must indicate the specific council for which they are applying. Strong preference will
be given to candidates who are residents of that council, as local residency is essential for
effective community integration and day-to-day field operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. Collect, record, and manage obstetric ultrasound scan data using study-approved tools and protocols, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality.
ii. Liaise with Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) facility teams to embed study procedures smoothly within routine clinical workflows.
iii. Coordinate the scheduling and integration of project activities within antenatal care (ANC) service delivery at assigned facilities.
iv. Guide and support health care providers in the correct use of Al-assisted obstetric ultrasound (AI-OBUS) workflows and project data reporting tools.
v. Prepare and submit weekly progress reports to the project coordination team in accordance with agreed timelines and reporting formats.
vi. Adhere to the study protocol, ethical guidelines, and quality assurance standards, and promptly escalate any protocol deviations or data quality concerns to the designated supervisor.
vii. Attend all project training sessions, review meetings, and supervisory visits, and actively contribute to quality improvement initiatives throughout the project lifecycle.
viii. Operate within the established project supervision structure, reporting directly to the designated SAFARI Project Supervisor at the University of Dodoma.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, Medicine, Health information Sciences, or any other related field from a recognized institution.
Required Skills
Demonstrated experience in data collection for research, public health, or clinical programs.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in both Kiswahili and English.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within health facility environments, including respectful engagement with clinical staff, patients, and community members.
Proficiency in the use of electronic data collection tools, including tablet-based applications and digital data management platforms.
Working knowledge of research ethics, with a demonstrated commitment to participant
confidentiality, informed consent, and ethical conduct throughout all project activities.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working in maternal and child health (MCH) programmes or reproductive health services.
Familiarity with antenatal care (ANC) service delivery protocols and practices at primary health care level.
Hands-on experience in health or social science research projects, particularly in fieldbased or community settings.
Demonstrated skills in both qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis and reporting.
Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision, with a willingness to travel regularly between health facilities within the assigned council or district.
TERMS OF SERVICE
Research Assistants will be engaged on a contractual basis for an initial period of three (3) months, renewable upon satisfactory performance and subject to project needs and availability of funds.
Remuneration will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, in accordance with the University of Dodoma’s applicable regulations and subject to statutory deductions.
