1: Mechanical Fitter

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and Barrick health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Report all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) issues via an incident report.
  • Daily maintenance Inspection and execution of plant Equipment.
  • Ensure work completion details are finalized in accordance with work requirements and procedures.
  • Ensure mechanical tools and equipment are maintained and stored in accordance with Barrick and OEM safety standards/ procedures.
  • Trouble shoot process plant equipment problems and solve engineering problems.
  • Ensure parts and components are selected and replaced as required in accordance with specification and work plan.
  • Ensure correct size, type and quantity of materials/components are determined, obtained, and inspected for compliance with the job   specifications.
  • Ensure work is planned in detail including sequencing and prioritizing and considerations made, where appropriate, for the maintenance of plan security and Capacity in accordance with system/site requirements

Qualification requirements

  • A relevant Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Technician Certificate from a recognized institution.
  • Technical/ Vocational School, Apprenticeship training, on-the-job training (FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test or its Equivalent).
  • A Mechanical Trade Certification is highly desired.

Experience and competencies needed.

  • 3 Years – Post Trade Test Experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ Artisan experience in mechanical fitting working at Gold plant equipment.
  • Demonstrated competencies in the rebuild and servicing of gold plant equipment’s.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Hazard identification and Risk assessment.
  • Understand technical drawings and manuals.
  • Possess a valid light vehicle manual-class driving license.
  • Strong technical and strategic planning related experience and background.

2: Crane Mechanic

Responsibilities 

  • Demonstrate Safe Work Practices and Team membership at the workplace.
  • Comply with Standard Operating Procedures for safe work daily –Isolation, Lockout, confined space, working at height, lift plans, rescue plans etc.
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
  •  Perform Equipment Maintenance Schedule, equipment colour tagging every quarter, structural/ground inspections prior to lift when required
  •  Inspection of all Lifting Equipment conducted daily before use &quarterly colour tagging recorded in respective Logbooks, including Mobile & Stationary Cranes
  • Operate the main and deck cranes within the designed (SWL) loads in accordance with the de-rating tables applicable to existing weather and sea state condition.
  • Drive the assigned crane.Qualification requirements
    • Mechanics Trade Certification/ Full Technician’s Certificate/ VETA Grade one.
    • Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.

    Experience and competencies needed.

    • 5 years in a Maintenance role responsible for Cranes Mechanics
    • Experience in open cast mining essential
    • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
    • Hazard identification and Risk assessment.
    • Understand technical drawings and manuals.
    • Possess a valid light vehicle manual-class driving license.
    • Strong technical and strategic planning related experience and background.
    • Ability to consistently manage such a diversified portfolio in a high-pressure environment
    • Highly professional conduct at all times and the ability to deal with a diverse client base.

3: Boilermaker

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and Barrick health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Report all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) issues via an incident report.
  • Daily maintenance Inspection and execution of plant Equipment.
  • Ensure work completion details are finalized in accordance with work requirements and procedures.
  • Ensure mechanical tools and equipment are maintained and stored in accordance with Barrick and OEM safety standards/ procedures.
  • Perform task risk assessments (JHA, FLRA).
  • Ensure the plant operates within acceptable limits and deviations reported.
  • Adhere to isolation and lock out permits procedures.
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.

Qualification requirements

  • Technical/ Vocational School, Apprenticeship training, on-the-job training (FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test or its Equivalent).
  • Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Minimum of 3 years post apprenticeship experience working on Light vehicle and Heavy Mobile Equipment in surface operations.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards of equipment.
  • Previous maintenance experience in industrialized plant is beneficial.
  • Experience using multiple welding machines including the arc welder, TIG, and MIG.
  • Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Hazard identification and Risk assessment.
  • Understand technical drawings and manuals.
  • VETA Driving Certificate.
  • Possess a Valid Tanzanian driving license class B, C, D and E

4: Backfill Superintendent

Responsibilities 

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensures strict adherence to all safety protocols, regulations (e.g., OSHA in the US), and environmental standards for backfill operations.
  • Operational Management: Oversees daily backfill activities, including the preparation, transport, and placement of backfill material.
  • Planning and Scheduling: Coordinates the backfill schedule with overall project timelines, working closely with project managers, engineers, and other superintendents to prevent delays.
  • Quality Control (QA/QC): Implements quality control measures to ensure the backfill meets engineering specifications (e.g., strength, compaction).
  • Resource Management: Manages and coordinates staff, equipment (e.g., pumps, pipelines, heavy machinery), and materials procurement for the backfill operation.

Qualification requirements

  • Degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related technical field is typically required.

  • A specialization in Ground Control, Geotechnical Engineering, or Rock Mechanics is often preferredHold a valid Tanzanian driver’s license

  • Mine Overseers Certificate of Competency or the equivalent will be an added advantage

  • Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.

Experience and Competencies needed

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in an underground mining environment is often required, with at least 5 years in a post-graduate, industry-specific role (e.g., in paste fill design and placement).

  • Ability to act and operate as part of a team and possess a “can do” attitude that will motivate the crew to action company directives, regardless of personal opinion.

  • Significant experience in a supervisory or management role, with proven ability to lead and mentor teams, is essential.

  • Expertise in backfill processes, including paste/cemented aggregate fill (CAF) operations, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and mix design.

  • A strong understanding of mining processes, including ground control management plans and mine layouts.

  • Experience in planning, monitoring, and optimizing paste reticulation to enable the stope filling sequence is critical.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and a commitment to safety regulations and industry standards are vital.
