Job Vacancies at LATRA Consumer Consultative Council August 2026, The Land Transport Consumer Consultative Council (LATRA) exists in accordance with section 29 of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) Act No. 3 of 2019.

The LATRA Act repealed the former Land and Water Transport Regulatory Authority (SUMATRA) Act, where at that time, the Council was known as SUMATRA CC C. The Act officially came into force on 29 April, 2019, after being published in the Government Gazette (GN.No. 358) dated 26/04/2019.

The Council is a body for users of transport services through urban buses (Daladala), long-distance buses within and outside the country, taxis, two-wheeled and three-wheeled motorcycles, as well as rail transport. The Council is mandated to represent and defend the interests and rights of users of land transport services.

Functions of the Board

The appointed members shall actively participate in the discharge of the Board’s functions as provided under Section 31(1) of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority Act, No. 3 of 2019.

These functions include:

a. To represent the interests of consumers by making submissions to, providing views and information to, and consulting with the Authority, Minister and regulated sector Ministers;

b. To receive and disseminate information and views on matters of interest to consumers of regulated goods and services;

c. To establish regional and regulated sector consumer committees and consult with them;

d. To consult with industry, Government and other consumer groups on matters of interest to consumers of regulated goods and services;

e. To establish local and sector consumer committees and consult with them; and

f. To conduct research on the matters affecting the interests of consumers of a regulated sector.

3. Key qualifications and experience

Based on Section 29(4) of the Act, the key qualifications and experience expected of Council members are:

i. Knowledge and understanding of consumer interests, particularly in the regulated land transport sector.

ii. Knowledge and understanding of regulated land transport services, including public transport, freight transport, rail transport, and other services regulated by LATRA.

iii. The ability to represent the interests of: low-income, rural, and disadvantaged consumers; industrial and business users; and Government and community organizations.

iv. A commitment to promoting and protecting consumer rights and welfare in the land transport sector.

v. Applicants should be between 50 and 65 years of age.
