Physics Teacher Job Description

The Physics Teacher will develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with curriculum objectives. The teacher will facilitate learning by establishing positive relationships with students and effectively organising learning resources and the classroom environment.

The successful candidate will also assess and record students’ progress, prepare learners for examinations, connect new knowledge with previous learning, and develop approaches that encourage students to deepen their understanding of Physics.

Key Responsibilities

The successful Physics Teacher will be expected to:

• Teach all areas of the secondary Physics curriculum.
• Take responsibility for the academic progress of students within assigned classes.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver effective lessons for students with different abilities.
• Organise classroom resources and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Use creative and engaging teaching approaches to motivate students.
• Maintain appropriate classroom discipline and student behaviour.
• Prepare, mark, and provide constructive feedback on students’ work.
• Assess and record students’ academic development and progress.
• Prepare students for internal and external examinations.
• Keep subject knowledge and curriculum knowledge up to date.
• Research new topics and develop appropriate curriculum materials.
• Use a range of learning resources and ICT tools to enhance teaching.
• Undertake pastoral responsibilities, including supporting students with academic or personal difficulties.
• Coordinate activities and resources within relevant areas of the curriculum.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and other members of staff.
• Communicate effectively with parents and participate in parents’ evenings and meetings.
• Participate in departmental meetings and whole-school training programmes.
• Support teaching assistants, trainee teachers, and newly qualified teachers where required.
• Participate in professional development and continuing training activities.
• Take part in school events, outings, and other activities when required.
• Promote the school’s mission, vision, values, policies, and positive culture.
• Undertake other reasonable duties assigned by the school.

Required Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of teaching Physics experience is essential.
• Experience with the English or Cambridge curriculum is desirable.
• Experience in curriculum development is desirable.
