The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) became a college under the University of London. The college started with a single faculty, The Faculty of Law.
The college was relocated from a single building at Lumumba Street, Dar es Salaam to Mwalimu Nyerere Mlimani Campus.
By 1996, UDSM had grown into an all-round University, offering all the major traditional University disciplines, including Humanities, Social Sciences, Physical and Biological Sciences, Medicine, Agriculture, Commerce and Management, Engineering, Lands and Architectural Studies.
UDSM established two constituent colleges of education: Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) and Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE).
