The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.

North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit). The process plant has the capacity to process an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.

1: Quality Controller

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure the area to be charged is properly demarcated.
  • Explosive handling – Safely store explosives on bench.
  • Dipping of drilled holes to ensure design parameters are achieved.
  • Priming of the holes to be charged with bulk explosives.
  • Checking initial and final stemming height during the charging process.
  • Ensure correct stemming of blast holes.
  • Spotting the stemming loader operator as the loader traverses the charged pattern.
  • Conduct housekeeping on the charged pattern.
  • To assist with the final tie up of the charged pattern.
  • Acting as a Blast Guard when required.
  • Perform any other related task assigned by supervisor.

Qualification requirements

  • Certificate of Secondary education or above.

Experience and competencies needed.

  • At least Two (2) years of experience preferably working in drill and blast section or Open Pit Mining environment.
  • Must have a valid Tanzania driving license.
  • Able to Drive Manual Transmission/Stick Shift Transmission.
  • Strong Safety Background and ability to drive a Safe working environment and practices. 
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal Ability to troubleshoot and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent technical skills and the ability to interpret schematics.

2: Graduate Mining Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely plans to the underground operations team to enable achievement of objectives set in the Mine Business Plans.
  • Perform Drilling and blasting QAQC including borehole tracking. 
  • Ikon logging blasting 
  • Creation of daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly schedules and forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance to, and monitor effectiveness of Mine Plans by daily engaging with the underground operations team
  • Mining equipment productivity simulation and scenario planning.
  • Identify Continuous Business Improvement opportunities.
  • Support the safety, health and environmental programmers.
  • Ensure that company policies, procedures and work standards are adhered to and kept up to date.
  • Work, cooperate and support contractors/consultant working for Gokona underground.
  • Reduced dilution, ore loss through optimized manual design of stope final shapes.

Qualification requirements

  • Degree in Mining Engineering 
  • Statutory Registration in Tanzania

     

Experience and Competencies needed

  • At least 3 months to 1 year or less practical experience in Mining engineer

3: Boilermaker

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and Barrick health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.

  • Report all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) issues via an incident report. 

  • Daily maintenance Inspection and execution of plant Equipment.

  • Ensure work completion details are finalized in accordance with work requirements and procedures.

  • Ensure mechanical tools and equipment are maintained and stored in accordance with Barrick and OEM safety standards/ procedures.

  • Perform task risk assessments (JHA, FLRA).

  • Ensure the plant operates within acceptable limits and deviations reported.

  • Adhere to isolation and lock out permits procedures.

  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.

Qualification requirements

  • Technical/ Vocational School, Apprenticeship training, on-the-job training (FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test or its Equivalent).

  • Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Minimum of 3 years post apprenticeship experience working on Heavy Mobile Equipment in surface operations.

  • Plant maintenance experience on Mills, crushers, conveyors, compressors, pumps, CIL tanks etc.

  • Working knowledge of safety standards of equipment.

  • Previous maintenance experience in industrialized plant is beneficial.   

  • Experience using multiple welding machines including the arc welder, TIG, and MIG.

  • Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.

  • Experience in open cast and Underground mining essential.

4: Rigger

Qualification requirements

  • Secondary School Education Certificate.

  • Must be a qualified Rigger with a Trade Certificate from a recognized institution.

  •  VETA Driving Certificate.

  • Possess a Valid Tanzanian driving license class B, C, D and E

  • Able to Drive Manual Transmission/Stick Shift Transmission.

  • Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Minimum of 3 years post qualification experience as a rigger or ropes man 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill competencies in safe lifting techniques, lifting gear selection, determination of weights and mass and crane movement directing. 

  • Verification of training and experience in operating various industrial machines such as Forklifts, Loaders, Overhead cranes, self-Loading Vehicle Cranes, trucks, mobile cranes etc. 

  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate the above listed equipment.

  • Must have a valid driving license. 

5: Reliability Engineer

Qualification requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Maintenance Engineering, or a related discipline — required.
  • Professional certification in reliability engineering or asset management (CMRP, CRE, or equivalent) — strongly preferred.
  • Computer literacy: SAP PM, Microsoft Office Suite — required.
  • Valid driver’s licence.

 

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in reliability engineering or asset health management in open cut mining or heavy industrial operations, with a strong HME fleet focus.
  • Proven hands-on experience implementing and operating condition monitoring programmes: oil analysis, filter cut analysis, magnetic plug/screen inspection, VIMS, and hydraulic cylinder rating.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting FMEA, RCA/RCFA, and structured defect elimination programmes in a production mining environment — required.
  • Experience building a site reliability programme in an operation characterized by chronic reactive maintenance and a high temporary repair rate.
  • Strong SAP PM asset health experience: failure coding discipline, component life counters, Phase Model, and maintenance history management.
  • Solid understanding of HME fleet systems (CAT 777E, 6020B, D9, 992, Sandvik drill rigs) and their known failure modes is advantageous.
  • Exposure to complementary asset health and predictive maintenance platforms (OEM-agnostic condition data consolidation and rules-based failure prediction tools) is advantageous.
  • Ability to coach and develop maintenance teams on reliability principles and condition monitoring practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
  • Medical fitness for the mining environment.

6: Senior Tradesman – Drill Specialist

Qualification requirements

  • Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Trade Certificate from a recognised institution — required.
  • Sandvik drill rig manufacturer certification or OEM training certification — required.
  • Hydraulic systems certification or equivalent formal training — required.
  • Computer literacy: SAP, Microsoft Office Suite — required.
  • Valid driver’s licence.

7: Senior Tradesman – Auto Electrician

Qualification requirements

  • Relevant Auto Electrical Trade Certificate — required.
  • CAT Electronic Technician (Cat ET) certification — required.
  • Sandvik auto electrical and automation systems certification — required.
  • Air conditioning systems repair certification.
  • Computer literacy: SAP, Microsoft Office Suite — required.
  • Valid driver’s licence.

8: Senior Maintenance Planner

Qualification requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Management, or a related field.

9: Senior Tradesman – Welding/QAQC

Qualification requirements

  • Boilermaker or Metal Fabrication Trade Certificate from a recognised institution — required.
  • IIW International Welding Inspector (IWI-C or IWI-S), CSWIP Welding Inspector, or equivalent certification — required.
  • ISO 14731 Welding Coordination Qualification or AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code knowledge — required.
  • Computer literacy: SAP, Microsoft Office Suite — required.
  • Valid driver’s licence.

Qualification requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or Advanced Diploma (or equivalent experience).

  • Certification in safety management (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or similar certifications) is highly preferred.

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Extensive experience (typically 5+ years) in safety management within the mining or heavy industry sector.

  • Underground, Process Plant and Open Pit Operation experience. 

  • Must have adequate driving competence in mining environment. 

  • Multi-skilled in different Mining Operation activities.
