1: Engineer 1- UG Ventilation

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

To design, implement, monitor, and optimize the underground mine ventilation system to provide a safe, healthy, and productive working environment. To ensure adequate airflow and effective control of dust, heat, diesel emissions, and hazardous gases in compliance with company standards, mining regulations, and industry best practices.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and maintain underground ventilation plans and models.
  • Monitor airflow, gas concentrations, temperature, and dust levels.
  • Ensure compliance with mine ventilation legislation and company standards.
  • Design ventilation circuits, fans, regulators, and ventilation controls.
  • Investigate and resolve ventilation-related issues affecting safety or production.
  • Support mine planning by incorporating ventilation requirements into mine designs.
  • Conduct ventilation surveys and analyse performance data.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance ventilation efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Prepare technical reports, ventilation schedules, and statutory documentation.
  • Mentor ventilation technicians and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Stop any work that is being done in an unsafe way and report the same to the supervisor or safety personnel.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

  • Mining Engineering or equivalent qualification obtained from a recognized institution.
  • Registered with ERB.

Experience

  • At least 2 to 5 years and above work experience in underground mining.
  • Experience in various underground mechanized mining methods.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Awareness of safety requirements.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

Successfully help deliver the planned maintenance regime, fulfilling statutory obligations, while also providing a breakdown reactive response that harmonizes both customer and organizational requirements.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Take reasonable care to protect personal health and safety and that of others who may be affected by any act or omission during the performance of duty.
  • Be proactive in all aspects of operational safety and work as a team member within the Engineering department.
  • Perform mechanical diagnostics on equipment and other machines to identify faults.
  • Repair mechanical and electronic faults in Jumbos, Solos, CAT machines, trucks, loaders, ITs and Normet machines, replacing damaged or faulty parts where necessary.
  • Perform checks and tests to verify the success of repair work and assemble and install mechanical and electronic systems in equipment.
  • Maintain and repair various kinds of petrol and diesel engine motor vehicles.
  • Maintain regular liaison with the maintenance planner to order parts and equipment as necessary.
  • Conduct inspections on equipment to identify damage or defects, document findings in the inspection register, and submit to the supervisor for further action.
  • Execute all assigned mining equipment maintenance tasks following approved work procedures.
  • Ensure all tasks are performed safely according to GGM Safety Standards procedures.
  • Repair equipment and report completion of tasks to the Senior Supervisor.
  • Ensure work is performed to OEM standard, and that quality of work increases uptime after equipment is released to production.
  • Plan work before execution.
  • Maintain good housekeeping.
  • Work additional hours when assigned by the supervisor based on production priorities.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

  • VETA Trade Test Certificate Grade One/Level Three in Mechanic Engineering
  • Diploma or FTC in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering

Experience

  • Three years’ experience and above working on underground equipment including Caterpillar truck and loader, Sandvik Truck TH663i and Loader LH6621i, Normet, drill rigs DD421 and DL421-15c, Cable Bolter DS422i, and Cubex DU411.
  • Previous experience in a similar role or time spent working on mechanical components on the equipment.
