Scholarship Opportunity at University of Cape Town 2027 Intake, MUHAS International Office is pleased to inform the MUHAS community and the general public about the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa, for the 2027 academic intake.

The University of Cape Town, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, offers scholarships and comprehensive support to academically talented young Africans who face significant social and economic barriers to accessing higher education.

The programme provides opportunities to pursue a world-class education, develop ethical leadership skills and contribute to positive change in their communities.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants should:

1. Be a citizen of an African country, including South Africa.

2. Demonstrate academic talent and commitment to excellence.

3. Face significant social and economic barriers to accessing higher education.

4. Demonstrate potential for transformative and ethical leadership.

5. Be committed to serving their communities and contributing to positive change.

6. Be applying for their first bachelor’s degree or an eligible taught postgraduate programme at UCT.

ELIGIBLE POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

For the 2027 intake, postgraduate opportunities include:

1. Postgraduate Diplomas offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences.

2. Honours degrees offered by any of UCT’s six faculties.

3. Coursework Master’s programmes offered by any of UCT’s six faculties.

The programme covers study opportunities across:

1. Commerce

2. Engineering & the Built Environment

3. Health Sciences

4. Humanities

5. Law

6. Science

Note: The scholarship does not cover part-time studies or qualifications by research only, including Master’s degrees by dissertation and PhD programmes.

HOW TO APPLY

Applicants are required to complete both the UCT academic application and the Mastercard
Foundation Scholars Program application.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES

Undergraduate Mastercard Foundation application: Deadline 30 September 2026

Postgraduate Diploma (Faculty of Health Sciences): Deadline 31 October 2026

Important: Undergraduate applications to UCT itself are already closed. However, eligible
applicants who have already applied for a UCT bachelor’s degree may apply for the Mastercard
Foundation Scholars Program and must subsequently receive an offer of admission to UCT.

Postgraduate applicants should check the specific admission requirements and deadlines of
their intended UCT programme in addition to the Mastercard Foundation deadline.
