New Vacancies at MUHAS Univesity September 2026, The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) is a Tanzanian Premium Health and Allied Sciences University established in 2007 through Article 1 of the Charter of Incorporation in line with the Universities Act No 7 of 2005.
Since its establishment, MUHAS has managed to have a range of programmes in biomedical, clinical and allied health sciences which necessitates increasing of number of staff to perform its intended function.
In this context, MUHAS is inviting applications from suitable candidates for various posts as itemized below for teaching the programmes across seven Schools and one academic Institute of the University.
1.1 JOB SUMMARY
The Department of Orthopaedic, Traumatology and Neurosurgery at Muhimbili University of
Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), in collaboration with the University of Oxford, University of
Cape Town, and Malawi University through the Global Injury Group, is conducting a research
project aimed at understanding musculoskeletal injury care pathways, patient and healthcare
provider experiences, and the contribution of different healthcare systems in Tanzania.
The study applies qualitative and ethnographic research approaches, including in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, observational fieldwork, and engagement with healthcare workers, patients, caregivers, and community-based healthcare practitioners.
The project seeks to generate evidence to improve understanding of musculoskeletal injury care delivery, identify challenges within existing care pathways, and inform health system strengthening strategies in
Tanzania.
The Qualitative Research Coordinator/Researcher will be responsible for planning, coordinating,
and implementing qualitative and ethnographic research activities, including participant
recruitment, data collection, field observations, data management, qualitative data analysis, and
preparation of research reports.
The successful candidate will work closely with national and international multidisciplinary
research teams to ensure the ethical, high-quality, and timely implementation of study activities in
accordance with approved research protocols, ethical requirements, and research governance
standards.
1.1.1 TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time project-based contractual employment of two years.
2.1 RESEARCH COORDINATOR – 1 POST
2.1.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. To plan, coordinate, and implement qualitative and ethnographic research activities;
ii. To conduct participant recruitment and engagement, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and observational fieldwork;
iii. To organize research visits, fieldwork schedules, travel, and other data-collection logistics;
iv. To transcribe qualitative interviews and focus group discussions in accordance with study protocols;
v. To manage qualitative research data and maintain accurate research records;
vi. To conduct qualitative data analysis, including coding and development of themes or categories;
vii. To contribute to the interpretation of research findings within a multidisciplinary research team;
viii. To prepare clear and high-quality research reports and contribute to academic publications;
ix. To participate actively in research team meetings and take a leadership role when required;
x. To ensure that all research activities are conducted ethically and in accordance with approved
protocols, research governance requirements, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP);
xi. To travel to research sites, including locations requiring overnight stays, as necessary for fieldwork and project activities;
xii. To assist with handling project-related cash or finances where required;
xiii. To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
2.1.2 QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Holder of Master of Public Health, Master of Pharmacy, MSc Health Economics and Policy,
MSc Applied Epidemiology, MSc Epidemiology and Laboratory Management,
MSc Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation in Health, MSc Clinical Psychology, Master in Social and Behaviour Change for Health and Master of Global Health and, Doctor of Medicine,
Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Bachelor of Science in
Medical Psychology,
Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Midwifery from a recognized reputable university. Plus, experience using qualitative data management and analysis software such as NVivo, ATLAS.ti, MAXQDA, or similar platforms is desirable and Knowledge of qualitative health research methodologies, ethical principles, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and At least 3–5 years of experience in health research.
2.1.3 SALARY
A competitive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate.
