36 Volunteering Opportunities at Mbeya UWSA July 2026, Mbeya Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (Mbeya UWSA) is a Government entity mandated to provide clean and safe water and sanitation services to the residents of Mbeya City and Mbalizi Township.

As part of its commitment to supporting professional development and equipping young graduates with practical workplace experience, Mbeya UWSA invites qualified, competent, motivated, and dynamic Tanzanian graduates to apply for thirty six (36) volunteering opportunities for a period of eleven (11) months in various cadres as indicated below:-

1.0 LEGAL OFFICER – 1 POST

1.1 Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB) from recognized institution. A registration as an Advocate of High Court is an added advantage.

1.2 Duties and Responsibilities

i. To register legal documents in the Authority;

ii. To prosecute and defend the Authority in the Court of Law and Quasi-Judicial Bodies;

iii. To deal with routine legal correspondences addressed to the Authority;

iv. To vet legal documents within the prescribed mandate;

v. To keep and update register of court cases;

vi. To advise on a proper filing system to be used for quick retrieval of all legal documents.

2.0 CUSTOMER SERVICES OFFICERS – 5 POSTS

2.1 Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Bachelor Degree or Diploma in one of the following fields: Entrepreneurship, Customer Service Management, Economics, Planning, Statistics, Business Administration majoring in Marketing, Corporate Management, Accounts, Finance and Commerce from a recognized Institution.

2.2 Duties and Responsibilities

i. To participate in attending and responding to customers’ inquiries;

ii. To participate in handling and resolving customer complaints;

iii. To participate in obtaining information requested by customers;

iv. To respond to customer calls and inquiries;

v. To receive and forward customer complaints to relevant officers;

vi. To keep records of interactions and transactions with customers;

vii. To participate in educating customers on the services provided by Authority.

3.0 WATER QUALITY TECHNICIAN – CUM – PLANT OPERATOR – 21 POSTS

3.1 Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Water Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Technology or Chemistry from a recognized institution.

3.2 Duties and Responsibilities

3.2.1 Water Quality Monitoring

i. To collect raw and treated water samples at various stages of the treatment process.

ii. To perform chemical and biological tests to measure key water characteristics.

iii. To ensure all treated water aligns with local, regional, and national health standards.

iv. To log lab results, data trends, and analysis findings accurately to provide reliable reports for internal management and regulatory agencies.

3.2.2 Plant Operations

i. To start, stop, and monitor pumps, valves, gates, compressors, and filtration units.

ii. To measure, mix, and adjust the feed rates of chemicals needed for water disinfection and purification.

iii. To monitor computerized control systems (SCADA) and system gauges, responding immediately to pressure drops, flow anomalies, or mechanical failures.

iv. To operate systems for backwashing and cleaning filter beds to maintain optimal flow rates and plant efficiency.

v. To conduct regular inspections of pumps, tanks, and pipe networks to ensure everything is in good working order.

vi. To test and recalibrate water quality sensors and chemical analysers to prevent inaccurate readings.

vii. To handle and store water treatment chemicals safely in accordance with facility protocols.

viii. To conduct regular security checks around wellheads, reservoirs, elevated storage tanks, and plant premises.

ix. To keep the laboratory, equipment rooms, and overall plant grounds clean and sanitized.

4.0 WATER QUALITY TECHNICIAN – 3 POSTS

4.1 Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Water Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Technology or Chemistry from a recognized institution.

4.2 Duties and Responsibilities

i. To carry out water sample tests every day in order to establish the types and quantities of water treatment;

ii. To collect water samples at different parts of the water treatment plant for analysis and recording;

iii. To perform water and waste water treatment processes;

iv. To carry out physical, chemical and bacteriological analysis of water and waste water;

v. To ensure that equipment in the laboratory is in working order;

vi. To participate in collecting, compiling and evaluating data on water production and distribution and wastewater quality works;

vii. To maintain proper records of laboratory investigations.

5.0 GIS TECHNICIAN – 3 POSTS

5.1 Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Diploma in one of the following fields: Geomatics or Geographical Information System from a recognized institution.

5.2 Duties and Responsibilities

i. To assist in capturing GIS data in different formats using GPS, electronic data recorders, digitizers, and other means;

ii. To carry out cataloguing and inventory of GIS data, including metadata creation;

iii. To input, update and maintain GIS databases, including backups and also maintaining linkages to other databases;

iv. To participate in creating map layouts and views and generate WSSA’s current and planned water network maps and reports;

v. To assist in the design, development (implementation) and maintenance of the WSSA’s GIS;

vi. To capture the location WSSA’s water and sewerage networks;

vii. To capture WSSA’s infrastructure data and convert paper maps to GIS datasets;

viii. To create map layouts and views and generate WSSA’s current and planned water network maps and reports;

ix. To manipulate, analyse and present the geographical information by creating programs to convert GIS information from one format to another.

6.0 MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN – 1 POST

6.1 Qualifications and Experience

Holder of Diploma/FTC in one of the following fields: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Automotive Engineering from a recognized institution.

6.2 Duties and Responsibilities

i. To carry out inspection of plants and equipment according to the laid down procedures;

ii. To participate in carrying out mechanical maintenance and repair of machines, motors, equipment, pumps and motor vehicles as directed;

iii. To complete  job card for every machine/mechanical maintenance and repair work carried out;

iv. To keep records of all maintenance and repair works undertaken for every machine and plant;

v. To participate in preparation of plans, designs, and modifications for new mechanical installations as required by management;

vi. To ensure that record of daily breakdowns of water distribution system and repaired breakdowns are kept properly;

vii. To prepare periodical reports on mechanical repairs and maintenance undertaken.

7.0 ELECTRICIAN / ELECTRICAL ARTISAN – 1 POST

7.1 Qualifications and Experience

Holders of Form IV Certificate with Trade Test Grade II / Level II / NTA Level 4 and 5 in one of the following fields: Electronics, Domestic/Industrial Electrical Installation from recognized Institutions.

7.2 Duties and Responsibilities

i. To plan the placement and routing of conduits, wiring, and fixtures.

ii. To install critical electrical components such as circuit breaker panels, transformers, switches, and outlets.

iii. To connect wiring to power sources, lighting systems, and appliances.

iv. To diagnose electrical failures and system malfunctions.

v. To conduct periodic preventative checks on transformers, switchboards, and distribution components.

vi. To replace damaged or outdated wires, fuses, and faulty fixtures.

vii. To ensure all installations meet the requirements of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and regional building regulations.

viii. To mitigate safety hazards by performing risk assessments before beginning any task and maintaining a safe work environment.

ix. To calculate the required materials, labour, and expected costs for upcoming projects.

x. To document repairs, logging used materials, and updating maintenance reports.

8.0 GRAPHIC DESIGNER – 1 POST

8.1 Qualifications and Experience

Holders of Form IV Certificate with Diploma or Certificate in Graphic Design, Visual Communications or Fine Arts. At least 1 year of practical experience in the field and successfully completed projects.

8.2 Duties and Responsibilities

i. To translate project briefs into visual concepts.

ii. To design a wide array of content, including logos, digital and print advertisements, social media graphics, presentation decks, infographics, and website layouts.

iii. To build and maintain Mbeya UWSA’s visual identity.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

i. Applicants must be Tanzanian aged between 18 and 35 years.

ii. Applicants must attach an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV) with reliable contacts, including postal address, email address, and telephone numbers.

iii. Applicants must attach certified copies of academic and professional certificates, academic transcripts, and birth certificates.

iv. Applicants must have two guarantors. Both must be Public Servants.

v. Applicants must attach an introduction letter from the Village/Street Executive Officer or relevant Local Government Authority.

vi. Applicants must be willing to volunteer in the respective assigned area.

vii. Applicants must attach a copy of the National Identification Card (NIDA).

viii. Applicants must attach two (2) coloured passport size pictures.

ix. Applicants must not have been convicted by any Court of Law for criminal or disciplinary offences and must possess good conduct and acceptable moral character within the community.

x. Testimonials, Provisional Results, Statements of Results, and Form IV and Form VI Results Slips shall not be accepted.

xi. All foreign academic certificates must be recognised by the relevant authorities, namely TCU, NECTA, or NACTVET.

xii. The volunteering programme is strictly intended for skills development and acquisition of work experience and shall not be construed as a basis for automatic employment in the Public Service.

xiii. Applications should reach the undersigned before/on 20th July, 2026.
