Funded Scholarship Opportunity in Canada 2027 Intake, The University of British Columbia (UBC) is pleased to be partnering with The Mastercard Foundation to foster the next generation of African leaders. After supporting over 171 Mastercard Foundation Scholars in its first phase,

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UBC will provide 351 academically talented young people from Africa with access to quality and relevant university education at UBC.

After graduating, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars will then utilize their learning and experiences to contribute to the economic growth and social transformation of their communities in Africa.

MUHAS International Office is pleased to inform interested and eligible applicants of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, for the 2027 intake.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UBC provides fully supported Master’s degree opportunities to academically talented young people from Africa who demonstrate leadership, community engagement, and a commitment to contributing to positive change in their communities.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must:

1. Be a citizen or refugee of an African country.

2. Be 35 years old or younger at the time of application.

3. Have completed a Bachelor’s degree.

4. Not already hold a Master’s degree.

5. Meet the academic admission requirements of the programme applied for.

6. Demonstrate leadership, community engagement, and commitment to contributing to the development of their communities and/or country.

7. Apply to one of the eligible Master’s programmes under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program provides comprehensive support, which may include:

1. Full tuition and academic fees

2. Books and study materials

3. Accommodation and meals

4. Living expenses

5. Health insurance

6. Air travel and immigration-related support

7. Career development and mentorship

8. Leadership and personal development opportunities

9. Access to the Mastercard Foundation Scholars global alumni network

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Applicants should follow the application process carefully.

1. Expression of Interest (EOI)

Interested applicants must first submit an Expression of Interest to the Mastercard Foundation
Scholars Program at UBC.

EOI opens: 31 August 2026

EOI deadline: 6 September 2026

2. Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Application Applicants shortlisted from the EOI stage will be invited to submit the full Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program application.

Application period: 15-30 September 2026

Applicants are required to submit:

1: Curriculum Vitae (CV)

2. Academic transcripts

3. Two reference letters

4. Personal statements

5. Other supporting documents as specified in the application.

3. Application to UBC Faculty

Applicants who successfully progress through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program selection process will be invited to submit the formal UBC graduate application.

UBC Faculty application period: 1-20 November 2026
